What is the multiplication tables check?

It is an on-screen check of 25 times tables questions up to 12 × 12, with 6 seconds to answer each one. There are 3 practice questions first, and the whole check takes about five minutes. There is no pass mark: the school shares your child’s score with you.

How Pet Rocket helps

The check is about quick recall, and that is exactly what Pet Rocket practises. Each round lasts one minute and shows one sum at a time, so children get used to answering quickly. The 1 to 10 times tables are free; the 11 and 12 times tables come with the Moon Pass.

Pet Rocket is not a copy of the official check and has no 6-second timer per question. Use it to build fluency, and use your school’s practice materials to get used to the real format.

A simple plan for the last weeks

A few minutes most days works better than long sessions. Start with the tables your child finds easy, then move on to the tricky ones. With the Times Tables Coach in the Moon Pass, the sums your child gets wrong come back more often.
