Pet Rocket

Our story

Made by a dad, for his son

My youngest son was having a hard time with his multiplication facts. Practice every day, a battle every day. He found it boring, and despite all his effort his results kept lagging behind.

As a parent, that’s frustrating. You want to help, but you don’t always know how. So I thought: this has to be more fun, right?

I started building a little game for him. Together with your own pet, you fly a rocket to the Moon, and every right answer brings you a bit closer. I called it Pet Rocket.

My son playing Pet Rocket on the laptop: the rocket on its way to the Moon and the problem 8 × 3.

Not long after, he came home with 48 out of 50 on his multiplication test. He was so proud, and he said something I won’t forget anytime soon:

“Dad, that’s because of your game.”

My son smiling at the camera, with Pet Rocket on the laptop behind him.

Maybe it was luck. Maybe all that practice had finally paid off. But one thing was clear: he was enjoying practicing again.

Then I thought: if he has this much fun with it, why shouldn’t other children be able to play it too?

Help us test

Pet Rocket is online for children all over the world, in seven languages. Now I mainly want to find out whether it works for other children too. So I’m looking for:

  • parents who let their child play and tell me honestly what they think;
  • teachers who take a critical look at its educational value.

You’ll be one of the first testers, and you’ll help decide how Pet Rocket grows. Let me know through the “Feedback” tab or write to [email protected].

Do you know someone with kids learning their multiplication facts, or someone who works in education? Then you’d help me a lot by sharing this page.
