Dividing by 1
Is dividing new for your child? Then start with dividing by 1. Every sum works straight away, and your child learns what dividing means.
Dividing by 1
- 1 ÷ 1 = 1
- 2 ÷ 1 = 2
- 3 ÷ 1 = 3
- 4 ÷ 1 = 4
- 5 ÷ 1 = 5
- 6 ÷ 1 = 6
- 7 ÷ 1 = 7
- 8 ÷ 1 = 8
- 9 ÷ 1 = 9
- 10 ÷ 1 = 10
- 11 ÷ 1 = 11
- 12 ÷ 1 = 12
Trick
Dividing is sharing fairly. Share 7 sweets with 1 child and that child gets all 7. Every number divided by 1 stays the same.
Watch out
7 ÷ 7 is 1, not 0. A number divided by itself is always 1.
