Dividing by 2
Your child actually knows dividing by 2 already: it is called halving. An apple in two, a pizza in two.
Dividing by 2
- 2 ÷ 2 = 1
- 4 ÷ 2 = 2
- 6 ÷ 2 = 3
- 8 ÷ 2 = 4
- 10 ÷ 2 = 5
- 12 ÷ 2 = 6
- 14 ÷ 2 = 7
- 16 ÷ 2 = 8
- 18 ÷ 2 = 9
- 20 ÷ 2 = 10
- 22 ÷ 2 = 11
- 24 ÷ 2 = 12
Trick
Take half. 16 ÷ 2: half of 16 is 8. Only even numbers divide neatly by 2.
Watch out
With 18 ÷ 2, children sometimes halve each digit on its own. Split it instead: 18 is 10 + 8, half is 5 + 4 = 9.
